T.A.R.A. E-Board Schedules Flurry of Activities

President Annie Banks opened a telephone conference of the Executive Board of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans on the afternoon of August 8. She urged everyone to "get moving" during these important times for Texas seniors.

Brother Shane Fox of Tyler urged people to attend hearings in Houston on August 11. Click here for more information.

The Texas group will co-sponsor a meeting 4-6:30 PM August 21 at the Dallas Federation of Teachers Hall, 334 W Centre. Everyone is invited to help honor Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson for her commitment to health care reform. Seniors are particularly encouraged to attend. Judy Bryant and Gene Lantz initiated this action, but several volunteers are working on it.

Sister Jo Cole and other Houston activists have set up a special meeting for September 25th at the Communications Workers (CWA) hall. Several important speakers are already invited.

The Executive Board planned its first real convention for 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 11, at the Texas AFL-CIO Building, 1106 LaVaca in Austin.

With help from the National Alliance, Sister Banks is planning a survey that will reach as many Texas seniors as possible. In other states, such surveys have proven to be good guides to action.

President Banks said that all Texas retirees should be working to become as influential as possible in the coming elections, because so many retiree issues are at stake.
