Date is changed for Texas ARA convention

Ed Sills of the Texas AFL-CIO wrote on 3/31/06: "Here's an important heads-up for Texas retirees. The Founding Convention of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Texas AFL-CIO auditorium, 1106 Lavaca St., in downtown Austin. The organizers of the new chapter of ARA plan to ask those in attendance to adopt by-laws, elect officers, join committees and embark on a plan for advocating for retirees in Texas. Brothers Victor Pauly and Don Horn are organizing the meeting. Invitations are being sent out and more information will be available closer to the meeting date."

Flu shots are being offered

For seniors over 65, Medicare will pay the full amount. Dallas County offered shots to seniors some time ago. They began offering them to the general public October 24. For others, county offices and many doctors will provide flu shots for around $20. Bell Helicopter has postponed offering $10 shots for its retirees. Vought will not offer free shots to retirees.

Early Voting has Already Begun

All Texans over 65 years old can vote absentee. We need to explore this further.
