Ed Sills of the Texas AFL-CIO writes on March 31: "Here's an important heads-up for Texas retirees. The Founding Convention of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Texas AFL-CIO auditorium, 1106 Lavaca St., in downtown Austin. The organizers of the new chapter of ARA plan to ask those in attendance to adopt by-laws, elect officers, join committees and embark on a plan for advocating for retirees in Texas. Brothers Victor Pauly and Don Horn are organizing the meeting. Invitations are being sent out and more information will be available closer to the meeting date.

The Texas activists had dozens of questions for national spokespersons
from the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA) Connie
Engholm
and Charley Williams. The two national figures stressed that we need a flexible
approach to make sure that the Texas Alliance serves our state's needs. Engholm
said, "We are going to make whatever works for Texas, work!"
After thorough discussion, the group agreed on model by-laws to propose at the convention and set the date.
