Texas Alliance for Retired Americans
Sets Convention
The TARA Executive Board met at the Texas AFL-CIO building on April 12. The
main order of business was to set a date for a statewide convention. They chose
to use that same auditorium, at 1106 LaVaca Street, on July 12. A four-person
committee will carry out more extensive planning.
President Victor Pauly expressed the new organization's gratitude for all
the support received from the Texas AFL-CIO. He also proudly announced that
Chapter Number One had been formed in Tyler by our Community Outreach expert
and National Board Member, Shane Fox. He expressed the hope that many more chapters
would be formed in geographic areas all across Texas.
Pauly led an extensive discussion about the operations of the retirees' group.
He is working with the national organization to make it possible for our organizers
and speakers to respond to opportunities anywhere in the state. Among those
attending were Jo Cole, Vic and Mrs Pauly, Eunice Parrish, Annie Banks, Charles
Hightower, Harold L Shaffer, R.J. "Joe" Christie, Gene Lantz, and
Elaine Jones. Teresa Perez-Wiseley, Jay Dunn, and top leaders of the Texas Federation
sat in on the meeting.
