Texas seniors are scrambling to hold a successful convention for the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans on October 11. President Annie Banks and the leadership committee set the conference for 11 AM to 3:30 PM at the Texas AFL-CIO office, 1106 Lavaca Street in Austin.
The convention couldn't have been more timely!
The American financial crisis and the roller-coaster stock market have shown just what a terrible disaster the ARA and our supporters avoided when anti-retiree politicians tried to put the Social Security Trust Fund into stocks! Some of them still want to! Undoubtedly, the continuing deterioration of our pensions and health care benefits will continue unless we are able to gather our forces and stand up, as one, for fair treatment for retirees!
Delegates attending the TARA Convention will be briefed on a series of state and federal legislative initiatives, current TARA advocacy programs, and top aging issues. Delegates will be addressed by an array of speakers from the Alliance for Retired Americans and the Texas AFL-CIO. The Texas Convention will include elections of officers, including President, Executive Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. All affiliates and members must be in good standing to be eligible to vote.
Convention organizers encourage Texas seniors to attend if at all possible.
People who want to attend should fill out a registration form, which may be obtained from Texas Alliance for Retired Americans Registration Desk, 4838 Raven Ridge, Houston TX 77053. Computer users may find complete information at www.txsenior.org. Completed forms and $10 registration fees may be mailed to that address. Registration forms and a late fee of $20 may simply be brought on convention morning!
To save time, why not print out the registration form below, fill it out and send it in? Those who would like to save the form as a photograph may just "right click" it.
