The Texas AFL-CIO passed the resolution below during its August 1-4 convention in Corpus Christi:
The Retired Members Committee recommends:
1. The AFL-CIO should take a position that Congress look into the high salaries and benefits of company executives that are detrimental to the workers and retirees, and may even put the company itself at risk.
2. The AFL-CIO should push for fully funding the FDA to ensure the safety of drugs sold to the public through inspections and oversight.
3. The AFL-CIO should encourage Congress to revisit the Prescription Care Program to eliminate the doughnut hole, to open the right of negotiation for drugs, and to allow reimportation of drugs.
4. The AFL-CIO should encourage national unions to share their contact list of retirees with the Alliance for Retired Americans
5. The AFL-CIO should promote both physical and fiscal support from AFL-CIO
unions to support the Alliance for Retired Americans.
Respectfully submitted: Victory Pauly, (CWA/UAPP Retired) Chair
Eunice Parrish (AFSCME Retired) Co-Chair
