The American
Federation of Teachers has chartered another Texas retiree chapter. The Houston
Federation of Teachers Retiree Chapter is up and running! President Annie Banks
has set a meeting for 11 AM Monday, July 28, at 2727 W. Holcombe Blvd, Conference
Room 2.7 on the 2nd floor. A brunch will be served.
She writes: "Since HFTR retired members are an essential part of the union, our first meeting will be held on July 28th, 2008, at 11 AM providing a wide range of information important to both current and future retirees. These issues include the preservation of Social Security; Medicare; Texas Plus; and Aetna Insurance and information to teach members how to best maintain strong ties to their union once they retire. A question and answer forum will be established to address any concerns that you may have regarding your retirement benefits."
The AFT has 1.4 million members and more than 230,000 retirees! Working together, they constitute a very powerful force nationwide and locally.
Retirees are encouraged to contact the new organization at The Houston Federation of Teachers Retiree Chapter, Local 2415, TFT, AFT, AFL-CIO, at 3100 Weslayan, Suite 255, Houston TX 77027-0081.
