Ironworkers Local 263 in Arlington, Texas, affiliated themselves with the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans during their Christmas party on December 14. The union local has members along the entire East-West length of Texas and into New Mexico.
Retiree leader Jim Wilson is the liaison for the Texas Alliance.
Local union President Ron Smitherman welcomed the retirees and talked briefly about how important politics is now and into 2008. He went over some of the opportunities that retirees have in Texas District 97, where a special election is scheduled for December 18. He had personally been phone banking and door-knocking with other union activists in this Southwestern section of Tarrant County.
The retirees gathered for a delicious Christmas meal and an opportunity to catch up with old friends.
