There are millions of seniors. Once organized, we will have tremendous political strength. And yet, no organization succeeds entirely by itself. Texas seniors need to look for partners at every opportunity. In general, everybody who is interested in the health and happiness of older Americans should be working with us whenever possible.
All of the nation's unions, no matter what their industry or affiliation, are interested in helping retirees. All of them hope to be retirees one day, and they are very familiar with the problems of Social Security, pensions, and health care. Many unions have an affiliation with the National Alliance for Retired Americans, and their individual members are already ARA members. However, they have not necessarily affiliated at the state level. The cost of doing so is negligible, consequently, every union organization should be signing up with the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. Several already have.
Shane Fox, our Vice President specializing in community outreach, has been working with the the Tyler Meals on Wheels organization to make sure that homebound retirees have every opportunity to express their political will. This kind of partnership will benefit both organizations and all of their members. We need every senior to look for more such opportunities.
