Reactionaries Are Out to Curtail Senior Voting Rights!

On December 24, former Texas Congressman Martin Frost wrote an essay that is of grave concern to all fair-minded Texans, but especially to seniors.

He said that Republicans in the state of Indiana had passed a law requiring every voter to have a government-issued picture-id when they go to the polls. For seniors who no longer carry drivers' licenses, such a law would tend to take away our right to vote! Disabled people and people too poor to have an automobile would also tend to lose their rights. Frost points out that, "Coincidentally, most of these people tend to vote Democrat."

The law is being rightfully challenged in the Supreme Court. All Americans who stand up for fair treatment should make their feelings known.

Frost says that about 12% of voting-age Americans lack a driver's license. For citizens over 65 years old, the number rises to 18%!

Furthermore, Frost argues that "...no one can cite examples of in-person voter fraud, which is what a photo ID theoretically is designed to prevent. The only examples of voter fraud ever cited involve absentee ballots where no photo ID would be necessary."

Clearly, the purpose of "voter - ID" legislation is to curtail the rights of targeted voters.

All Texas seniors need to stand up and vote. For information on voting, contact the state authorities at 1-800-252-8682, or see our voting page
